The Las Vegas Hilton Sign
Led a team of engineers in the performance of a comprehensive structural engineering Investigation to determine the causes of the failure of the 362 ft. high, structural steel marquee sign in front of the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, during a wind storm. Included providing extensive structural engineering litigation support services to assist the attorneys working for the insurance company who held the builder’s risk insurance policy for the design-build contractor who designed and erected the sign. The cause of the sign collapse was identified through exhaustive review of the original design, physical reconstruction of the collapsed portion of the sign, and extensive physical examination of the various components of the debris. This three-dimensional, highly complex steel framed structure was the world’s tallest free-standing sign at the time of its collapse. |
