Mather Tower, Chicago, IL
Rewerts was retained by the offshore Owners of this 46-story, 1928 era, historic office building located in downtown Chicago, when pieces of architectural terra cotta reportedly had fallen from the facade. Upper Wacker Drive, a major Chicago artery, was temporarily closed in front of the building at this time by the City Building Department. Rewerts was retained at the recommendation of the City of Chicago Law Department to direct and manage the emergency stabilization of the entire facade of this large building, so that Wacker Drive could be re-opened. This included a comprehensive hands-on inspection of the entire exterior facade of the building, and working with the Berglund Maintenance Company to install temporary measures to prevent any cladding materials from falling to the streets and sidewalks below. Work included direct testimony on numerous occasions in local municipal court on behalf of the Owners, reporting on the condition of the building, as the project progressed. Inspection and temporary stabilization progressed on a two-shift basis until completed, and included considerable night-time work.
