Failure of a Suburban Office Warehouse Roof, Chicago Area

Structural engineering investigation to determine the causes of collapse of a portion of a relatively common steel bar joist and propped cantilevered steel beam roof framing system. The failure occurred during a heavy rainstorm and was due to a combination of poor initial design and detailing of the steel framing system, and the characteristics of the roof drainage system.
