Rewerts performed an extensive structural engineering investigation to determine the causes of very unusual cracking of the inner wythe of the exterior cavity walls, which had without corresponding cracking of the outer wythe. This cracking was alleged to have occurred during the passage of Hurricane Ivan. Work included making destructive openings to examine the inner components of the wall construction. Ground penetrating radar was used to locate the positions of vertical grout columns that were incorporated in the open cavity of the hollow walls . The cracking was determined to be unrelated to the hurricane.
